Announcing Cory’s Newest Team Members!

Posted July 1, 2015

On behalf of the Cory Personnel Committee, it is my pleasure to introduce to you our newest Cory Team Members, Kara Fuchs and Amy Polete.  Both Kara and Amy will will be starting at Cory this coming 2015/16 school year. Kara will be joining our 1st Grade Team as a teacher and Amy will be our Music Teacher.

Please click below for their respective biographies.  May you enjoy reading both Kara and Angela’s biography as much as we enjoyed interviewing and hiring them.

Both Kara and Amy will be an asset to our team and will offer the latest and greatest in instructional strategies to the classroom.  Our team is known to be a ROCKIN’ team and having both of these educators join us will only add to the great talent that already exists at Cory.  Special Note:  If your child was assigned Linda Durgin for 1st Grade, their new teacher is Kara Fuchs.  She will be sending a letter via email to all of you by August and is excited to meet your child!

I also wanted to take the time to share with you the process in which these candidates were chosen. DPS has a tight recruitment system to help ensure every DPS classroom has the most qualified teacher. Within this system is a level of freedom for each school to dig deeper and find the best candidates for their particular school and needs. Below is a snapshot of the process in which we took to find what we believe are the “best of the best”.

Cory Personnel Committee Report- June 2015
Personnel Committee members include:

  • Jennifer Harris (Principal)
  • Brendan Doyle (1st Grade Rep.)
  • Patty Kozma (2nd Grade Rep.)
  • Annie Guerrero (3rd Grade Rep.)
  • Rainy LaVenture (4th/5th Grade Rep.)
  • Dawn Miller (Librarian/Technology Teacher representing our Specials Team)
  • Maria Dutmer (Parent Rep.) and
  • Chris Powell (Parent Rep).
  • Lisa Schultz (Paraprofessional and music professional) also joined us for the resume reviews portion.

Resume Reviews

  • 1st Grade Position- The committee spent one evening reviewing 67 resumes.
  • Music Position- The committee reviewed 14 resumes.

Interview and References

  • 1st Grade Position- We interviewed 7 candidates in total for 1st Grade
  • Music Position- We interviewed 4 candidates in total for Music.

For both positions, we chose two candidates to move forward in the process to include reference checks.  Normally a classroom observation would be recommended but this is waived during the summer months, due to school not being in session.

Based on the interviews and references, the committee agreed upon a recommendation to hire both Kara and Amy.  Thank you all for welcoming them to our team!

We look forward to seeing all of you in August and hope you are having a wonderful summer.

In partnership,

Jennifer Harris, Principal
